What is the Friends Film Festival?
Friends Film Festival was started in 2025. It's a place for everyone to express themselves creatively through a new medium. Whether you're a first-time filmmaker or just want to try something different, this is your space to experiment and share.
When and where is the festival taking place?
The festival takes place in Spring 2026 in Los Angeles. Specific date and venue details will be shared with participants closer to the event.
Is this in-person, virtual, or hybrid?
This is an in-person event, but we accept remote submissions! You don't need to be in LA to participate—just send us your film and we'll screen it at the festival.
What types of films are accepted?
Any type of film is accepted—shorts, docs, animation, experimental, narrative, music videos—as long as you adhere to the time limit. Get weird with it. Get creative. The only rule is the runtime.
Are there genre restrictions?
No genre restrictions! However, if your film has content that is not appropriate for kids, please let us know in advance so we can plan accordingly.
Do films have to follow the theme?
The theme ("Subliminal Time" this year) is encouraged but not required. We'd love to see your interpretation, but if you have a different story to tell, that's cool too. Make what moves you.
Is there a runtime limit?
Yes—films must be 2-3 minutes maximum. Short and sweet. Think of it as a creative constraint that forces you to be intentional with every second.
Can I submit multiple films?
Each person, couple, or group can submit one film. Choose your best work or the one that speaks to you most.
What format should my film be submitted in?
You can share your video file via AirDrop on the day of the festival, or you can send it to us in advance via email or file transfer. Any standard video format works (MP4, MOV, etc.).
📽️ After each screening: We'll have a short Q&A where you can share your process, inspiration, or just vibe with the audience. It's casual—no pressure.
